Villages and Towns


An old market town with three supermarkets, cafes and a great walk along the River Barrow.  It is one of the few towns that has an outdoor swimming pool and opens for July and August. [8 kms]


A feast for lovers of craft!  This picturesque village, with its creativity, culture and great walks, is located along the River Nore just fifteen minutes’ drive from Killure Cottages. [14 kms]


This beautiful town is only 12kms from Killure Cottages and is home to Duiske Abbey.  Here you will also find river walks and trails, bike trails and exhilarating canoeing trips with plenty of craft shops and eateries as well as Cushindale Woollen Mills[16 kms]


There is so much to do in Thomastown.  Visit Jerpoint Park, Jerpoint Abbey, Kilfane  Waterfall and Glen, Grennan Castle and Goatsbridge Trout Farm .  With the addition of range of eclectic craft shops and cafes, Thomastown is the perfect place to visit. [17 kms]


This little village is home to Jen’s Café  and Fred Malzards famous Irish pub so it’s a must-visit destination during your stay. [28 kms]

Kilkenny City

Kilkenny is a richly historic place with a warm welcome.  The city really has it all – castle, medieval mile, parkland, design centre, crafts, churches, tower, shop til you drop, pubs, restaurants, Irish music, galleries and a festival every weekend! [18 kms]


Situated on high ground to the south of the Kings River, Kells is home to one of the best preserved Augustinian Priories in Ireland – a National Monument and a must see.  You will also find a Celtic cross that dates from the 9th century at the burial site of Niall Caille, High King of Ireland. [31 kms]


Just outside the town of Carlow is the largest Dolman in Europe.  The town itself is vibrant and benefits from a wealth of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as the George Bernard Shaw Theatre. [24kms]

Waterford [65 kms]

This Viking city is the Ireland’s oldest city and parts of its ancient walled core remain.  It is a treasure-trove of ancient artifacts, elegant architecture and great local food.  It is also is famous for its Waterford crystal and nearby beaches.
